How To Choose An SEO Company
Do you own a website? Have you heard of Google? If you answered yes to at least one of those questions I’m sure you have heard the term SEO. So if you have done a little digging online about SEO you saw an abundance of SEO companies who all wanted your dollars in their pocket, am I right? I know I’m right, I own one of those SEO companies. Just like in your industry, not all businesses are created equal nor do they all provide the same services or in the same manner. Keep reading to get some helpful tips on how you can sift through the clutter and get to the heart of the matter and pick the right SEO company for you!
How do you find the Right SEO Company to work with?
SEO and online marketing has so many wonderful attributes, but one of my favorites is that You can work with virtually anyone around the world. We have team members in Virginia, Canada, California, and Florida. It’s great to not be restricted by your local talent pool and we also don’t have to leave the house as much for work, so with COVID-19 happening right now we really love our industry even more. Some clients really like it that we are in their local area and that’s cool, we get. It really comes down to your personal preference on whether you want the SEO company you work with to be local or not.
If you really are set on only working with a local SEO company then a simple online search for an SEO Company (City/State) will provide you with a bunch of options to choose from.
First thing to look at
I would say the first and probably one the easiest ways to find a good SEO company is by looking at their reviews. Make sure to read through some of them and make an educated decision on how you think they perform.
Next thing to do is ask the prospective company the following 3 questions:
Given my current location of where I do business and the industry I’m in, do you think that SEO is even needed?
If SEO is warranted, what options do they provide? Not every SEO company has an option that fits your criteria, so it’s best to find a company that can tailor their SEO options to best suit your needs.
Last question should be for them to provide proof, typically in the form of case studies, that show real results for other companies they have worked with.
There is a right and wrong way to do SEO
As is with most things in life, there is a right way and a wrong way to do SEO. We are going to go over the right and wrong ways of SEO so you can feel more confident in your search.
If your SEO strategy is not done correctly your website may get flagged. This means that Google has flagged your website as spam due to your SEO strategy being completed the wrong way. Make sure you are working with a company that has the knowledge to get your website ranked naturally without the risk of getting your site flagged. So a key thing to pay attention to is if the company you are talking to about SEO mentions buying likes on social media, paying for reviews, or paying for any type of false interactions then our best advice is to stay care of that company.
The traffic that comes to your social media accounts and the customers who leave you reviews should be actual people you have interacted with, not reviews that you have paid someone to write. Make sure you ask your SEO company about their backlinking strategies. Backlinking in essence is like getting votes for you website from other websites. The more links you have from high quality websites the better it is for you. Google knows it’s more challenging to get a high quality link to a very well known (high domain authority) website than it is a less high quality link. Not only does the link pointing back to you website need to be from a high domain authority it also needs to be relevant to your website. So if you have a website about your cake business and you get a backlink from a local dog groomer website, well that backlink is not relevant and may not be from a very well known website in Google’s eyes. You want to make sure that the SEO company you choose will not use spammy sites to backlink to your site. Backlinking is very important and is a topic you should ask your potential SEO company about. If the company is unwilling to discuss their backlinking strategies to you we recommend looking elsewhere.
Don’t stop searching and asking questions about SEO. There is plenty of education out there on this topic and you should feel comfortable taking the step forward with the company of your choice, due to the fact that they have successfully informed you of how they will take care of you.
Whenever we hear about someone who has the “secrets” to getting “X” accomplished faster and better than everyone else, we usually go the other way. SEO requires the right knowledge and the right tools. Most clients come to us because they don’t have time to implement SEO on their own (and that’s if they even are capable of implementing SEO), they lack the knowledge of SEO, or some combination of the two.
